Gnutella
From PhexWiki
Gnutella is the oldest truly decentral p2p filesharing network which witnessed the fall of napster and still thrives and evolves and becomes more efficient all the time.
In current lingo you'd call it a tag based decentral p2p search engine.
It is built for searches by file name and it is useable with any network connection, even for users with a 56kb Modem, and it scales quite well.
If you want to understand how it works and what changed from the first setup till today, or if you want to get a quick overview, please have a look at the userfriendly guide Gnutella for Users.
