Filtering adult content from searches PDF Print E-mail

Filtering out adult content from your searches (like documents containing porn, showing sex or sexually explizit scenes, and other material which might not fit your taste) is quite easy. Since Version 2.8.6, Phex comes with a predefined adult-filter, which you can edit to better fit your needs. It will filter out many types of adult-material, but most probably not all of it, and it can't do anything against misnamed files. But it will considerably reduce the number of undesired results in your searches.

Activating the adult-filter

To activate it, switch to the Search Tab. To the right you'll now see the Quick-Filter Pane (If you don't see it, press the button with the three down-pointing arrows, from which two are being blocked). Then click the Button on the left side of that pane, named "Rules". To activate one of the rules, click the radio button on its left. To activate a rule permanently (make it sticky), click on the "change"-button on the right side of the rules-list. It will open the rules-wizard. In the rule-wizard, select the rule and click the "change"-button above the list of rules. You can now click the "enable rule permanently", save the rule and exit the rules-wizard. Now the rule will be automatically activated for new searches. You can still deactivate it manually for each search, though.

Modifying the adult-filter

To adapt the filter to your needs, you can also use the rules wizard. You should already know from the previous paragraoh, how to enter the rules wizard, so I'll skip that here. To edit a pre-defined rule, select it in the rules-wizard and click the "copy"-button. Then select the new Rule, which will be named similar to "Copy of Adult Filter" and click the "change"-button. Now you can click the underlined parts of the text in the lower part of the filter-window and edit the values (remember to click the "add"-button before hitting "OK", to add the terms to the condition, else your condition will stay empty), or filter by different conditions by selecting new conditions in the upper part and assigning a value to them with a click on the underlined words of the appearing rule-phrases.

More on filtering

You can also create new rules to filter your searches exactly as you want them filtered. Also you can permanently activate the "Default Scam File Filter" as described for the adult filter and if you found a clever way to filter some of the nastier kinds of spam, we'd love to meet you in the Phex Forum and maybe add it as a default filter for Phex (if it is time-resistant, means if it will still help filtering spam several months from now)
Comments
  • Hiding Search Results means, they will reappear, when you disable the filter. Deleting will do just that: Delete the result. You won't see it and it won't appear again, when you deactivate the rule.
